Competency aims

The aim of this course is to provide students with a basic understanding of the living conditions and quality of life of older people in the post modern society.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student is expected to be able to

- define quality of life and main concepts related to quality of life.
- be aware of the most important determinants of quality of life in old age.
- explain the relationship between objective and subjective dimensions of quality of life.
-present, discuss and describe how different factors influence on quality of life of senior citizens.

Dimensions of quality of life

During this course the students do an individual assignment were they discuss and describe different factors influencing quality of life in old age. In this assignment students refer correctly to current literature and research articles. The individual assignments are presented in a seminar.

Basics in gerontology

Additional information

Compulsory attendance at lectures, literature search, seminars.

The student is required to meet the teacher at least once for discussion and tutoring before the seminar.
