Competency aims

The aim of the course is that students understand
the living conditions of older people.
Furthermore, they are able to understand ageing
from a biological, physical and psychological
perspective. Students are introduced in project
work.

Learning outcomes

The course have 4 parts
Part 1, Introduction and wellbeing among elderly
- have knowledge of the living conditions among
older people
Part 2, Healthcare among elderly
- have knowledge of the biological, physical and
psychological changes in human ageing
- can understand and describe different shades in
health/ill-health among older people
- can support the social network for older people
by being a resource for the family
- have knowledge of the common diseases of
dementia
- have knowledge of the common longterm diseases
among older people
- have knowledge of security and well-fare
legislation for older people
Part 3, Services offered to elderly
- have knowledge of social services for older
people
Part 4, Medication administration
- have a basic theoretical knowledge of
medication administration and dosage calculation

Course contents

This course focus on the wide spread of Social
gerontology; psychology, geriatrics, Health
science and medical treatment.

Assessment:

Medication adminstration and dosage calculation is
assessed with a examination consisting of two
parts - a theoretical part and a calculation part.
All three parts must be approved for registration
of course grade.
