Competency aims

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge about the organizational structure of mental health care. The student gets knowledge about different kinds of patients suffering from mental problems, furthermore the student gets knowledge about care of the patients. The student gains experience of working with psychiatric patients and is provided with counselling.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to understand the organizational structure of mental health care. The student can meet and support a psychiatric patient in acute phases of the illness. The student can apply ethical principles in the psychiatric context, the student understands her/his role in the caring relationship and understands the meaning of counselling in developing mental health care.

Introduction to mental care and crisis management.
