Competency aims

The aim of the course is examine the structure and syntax of XML, and to provide a clear overview of some of its more important uses. The second part of the course looks at the epub format of publishing ebooks as an example of xml in action.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to create an XML specification for a given purpose and create an XML schema to validate it.

Assessment requirements

To pass the course the student should pass: Examination 1: produce a report that clearly specifies the schema AND THE LOGIC BEHIND IT, for the XML specification that the student has developed during her/his main project. (50%) Examination 2: produce a valid publication in epub format suitable to uploading and distributing on the web (50%)
