Competency aims

The aim of the course is that students have
knowledge of history
and trends in caring, care work and Nursing and
Caring science,
as well as knowledge of healthcare ethics and an
ability to
reflect on dilemmas of care based on the various
ethical choices
and decisions.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected
to have an understanding of the history of ideas
that lie behind
health and care work, as well as of idea patterns
that have
influenced Nursing and Caring science at
different times and in
different contexts; to understand the use of
methodology and
source criticism in researching history of ideas;
to reflect on the
fundamental values of Caring; to increase
awareness of their
own inner ethics.

Course contents

-History of ideas behind caring, care work and
Nursing and
Caring science by selected classical and
contemporary thinkers.
-History of Ideas methodology and source
criticism. -Caring
Ethics: the caritative ethics basic categories -
nurse's code of
ethics , -Ethical theories; external and internal
ethics as well as
responsibility.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

The first year course of Evidence based care and/or
previous
ethical knowledge and experience of practical
training/care work
