Competency aims

The aim of the practical training is to promote quality of life and well being of elderly citizens in society through client work in elderly care and services.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the practical training the student is expected to be able to

- analyze the individual meaning of the quality of life and the well-being of elderly people and know how to support quality of life and wellbeing of elderly clients throughout the ageing process.

- understand the importance of holistic care, service and rehabilitation of elderly clients.

- establish a helping and caring relationship with the elderly clients and their families with the specific aim to promote the functional capacity and independence of the client.

- take responsibility of own actions and reflects on own activity in light of the value foundation of elderly care.

- to interact with elderly clients of varying health and functional capacity and with their families.

Practical work to meat, understand and support elderly citizens in the society:
- Promotion of quality of life and wellbeing of elderly citizens in society
- Client work in elderly services
- Ethics in elderly care and services
- Interaction in elderly care
and services

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Module: Basics in gerontology
Module: Senior citizens in the society - theoretical studies

Additional information

- Participation compulsory in the evaluation seminar
- Written report compulsory, deadline
