Competency aims
This course will support developing the following central leadership competencies:
Reflecting on ones own need of development for improving performance and enhance the safety and quality of professional work through evaluation, supervision and appraisal.
Enhancing an organisational culture that support participation across professional and agency boundaries, actively involving and respecting others contribution.
Understand and organize research and relevant theory about wellbeing and health promotion in workplaces in order to act as change agents on this topic.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to:
1.Demonstrating working collaboration and the ability for becoming reflective practitioners, more aware of their own behavior, attitudes and actions and their impact on others and on the organization.
2.Describe and suggest how professionals in different organisational settings could grow a more democratic working culture.
3.Analyzing and critically discuss different concepts and theories in leadership and management literature.
4.Think critically, plan and carry out smaller own projects relating management theory to empery.
5.Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral presentation linking research, theory and empirical findings with each other.
Course contents
During this course Arcadas three focus themes: 1)
participation, 2) health-promotion and 3) Safety
issues at workplaces will all be linked to emerged
relevant challenges in Finnish workplaces: a)gender management, b) diversity management and c)generational management.
Students then work in smaller groups (3-4/group)
around one topic linking each topic to relevant
literature and to workplaces.

Assessment requirements
Learning outcome 1 will be showed in workshop (10points) and learning outcome number 3 will be demonstrated by individual exam (40points) and finally learning outcome 2, 4 and 5 will be examined through a written research article ready for publication (50 points).

WORKSHOP 10 points for students in groups
presenting scientific article
EXAM, individually written 40 points
PROJECT WORK AND REPORT 50 points, written and
presented in class
