Learning outcomes

After completing this unit of study, students can
mentor families according to their needs during
postnatal period and in family planning.

After completing the unit of study, the student
will be able to plan, implement and evaluate care
for the newborn
family during the postnatal period.

Provide breastfeeding guidance according to WHO
baby-friendly standards.

Identify complications during the postnatal period
and act according to established guidelines.

Identify the most common abnormalities in
infants during the postnatal period.

Upon completion of the unit of study, the student
will have
a person- and family-centered approach
both in midwifery and inter-professional
care contexts. (Approach)

Course contents

Participation in the training in accordance with EU
directives

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Competences of the study units in the three
first years of nursing education and theory in
postpartum care.

Medication exam completed at least 2 weeks before
the start of the internship or as required by
by the examiner.

In addition, decision 6/2020 of the Vice-Dean
applies to
adequate language skills in Swedish and Finnish
when the internship is to be booked.

Additional information

The work trips are done according to the
supervisors and
unit planning. 38h/week in three shifts.
The practical assignment is done on its learning.
Reporting of hours worked and evaluation should be
submitted on its learning.
Vaccination certificate and investigation of
infectious diseases
diseases are followed according to the usual
directives and
welfare requirements.
