Competency aims

The course aims to introduce the basic principles for training of functional ability and health promoting exercises. Focus is also on understanding the importance of and gaining experience of instructing adapted physical training.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to
- be able to describe principles of physical training and their importance for health
- know about different physical activities and be able to instruct healthy people and persons with special needs in different exercises
- understand the importance of the social aspect of group activities
- be able to consider individual needs in planning and interventions
- show basic skills in first aid

Course contents

Theory
- training principles for developing general physical fitness, endurance, strength, elasticity, mobility, coordination and balance
- muscle physiology
- fitness training in the gym
- didactics in group training sessions
- how to write instruction plans
- using music to support exercises
- principles for water exercises and adapted training
- first aid

The theory part of the course is in period 3, spring 2013. As the practical lessons take place during autumn 2013 and spring 2014 part of the credits (1 cu) of the course is given after this.
