The aim of the practical training is that the student can practice and develop her/his knowledge, skills and approach within the different areas of the professions´ competencies:

Competence regarding occupational therapy and occupational science, occupational therapy process and professional reasoning, competency regarding professional relationships and companionship, competency regarding professional independence and professional responsibility and competency about research and development within occupational therapy

This means that the student will use occupational science, related knowledge, relevant research and legislation as a ground for her/his professional reasoning regarding the client/s difficulties in activity performance and for planning and making interventions.

The student realizes her/his own responsibility in different work situations and the importance of using guidance efficiently in her/his own professional growth.

After the practical training the student can:

• use professional reasoning according to existing research, knowledge and an occupational science perspective in order to describe the clients difficulties and to motivate choices made within the occupational therapy process

• use occupational therapy methods and principles in order to map out, assess and negotiate treatment goals using GAS; Goal Attainment Scaling method

• participate in making treatment plan, interventions and documentation for the own occupational therapy client

• create and maintain a companionship with the client and other people of significance to the client

• use existing recommendations and legislation in order to motivate for/show for the clients rights to receive treatment and/or rehabilitation

• participate in the multi professional teamwork by consulting other professions and report about the clients´ occupational therapy

• take responsibility about the work task that has been assigned regarding the own occupational therapy client

• use guidance efficiently a part of the process of professional growth

• follow the existing principles and cooperative strategies within the organization

-evaluate her/his own knowledge, skills and attitude within client work

Fieldwork at hospital, health care center or other
relevant working place for OT

Approved examination in OT courses from first year
of studies, 20 ECTS credits from interdisciplinary
subjects and approved registration from the 4 week
long introductory fieldwork.

Last day for registration is 1.10.2021. The places for practical training via Jobiili application, opens November 2nd 2021 9 am.
