Competency aims

Competence in sustainability.

Learning outcomes

Understanding the fundamentals of circularity in the
context of sustainability in both technical and
biological spheres. Ability to apply systems thinking to
identify material and energy closed loops and zero-waste
solutions. Deeper understanding of material and energy
circularity in technical industrial sectors, and
familiarity with current developments in each sector.
Ability to consider evidence and identify potential
couplings of processes as regenerative or restorative
solutions towards enhanced circularity. Understand
future professional role of engineers in the circular
economy.

Course contents

Circular economy paradigms, case studies, current
developments, circular economy sectors: (general
industry, AI, batteries and electronics, bioeconomy,
chemicals, machinery and manufacturing, mining and
construction, packaging, polymers, and textiles.
