Competency aims

The aim of the course is to give a detailed
understanding of the financial markets and the
financial services industry. This relates to
both instruments and structures as well as
market participants and their roles.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is
expected to
- understand the functioning of financial
markets
- know the main financial instruments and their
use
- analyze pros and cons of different financial
instruments
- know the different counterparties, their
roles and the functioning of the Financial
Services Industry
- analyze and discuss the main trends on the
financial markets during recent years

Material relevant to each individual topic,
published by financial market actors, government
bodies, regulators etc.

Essays, reports, productions and portfolio

Assessment requirements

No mandatory attendance at lectures
Mandatory attendance at 50% of presentations
Group assignment:
In groups of 3 students, prepare a written report
or essay on a selected topic. Minimum 12 pages of
text (+ title page, index, list of sources etc).
Presentation of the report to the class
Discussion after presentations
Report stands for 80% of the grade, presentation
20%
Groups are assessed as one unit and every member
in a group gets the same grade. Teacher allocates
members to groups. Each group prepares an
individual report: direct copy-pasting will lead
to failure.
Grade given cannot be improved on, but a failed
report can be resubmitted.
Missing the deadline will reduce grade by 1.
