Competency aims

The student will learn about the historical shift from
analogical to digital and social media and how this shift can
be seen explicitly on in a new type of media communication.
The student will know the concepts social, media and
communication. Besides these, she/he will have basic insight
into the concepts platform society, individual, institution,
representation and semiotics. The student will have developed
an analytical skill in order to approach social media and to
understand the challenges of social media and the platform
society for the civic society and an professional media
production.

Learning outcomes

After the examination of the curse, the student
will know the focal concept within the fields of
social media and communication. The student will gain
a broader and a more professional understanding of the
role and meaning of social media for both individual
and society so that she/he can adapt the concepts in
written texts and oral group conversation. In the
course the student also practices their ability to
speak and write. Rhetorics, logical fallacies and process-writing
are all included in the communication part of the
course content.

Course contents

Due to the exceptional situation created by the Coronavirus and the closing of the University, the course is now completely virtual, everything happens via Zoom and Itslearning. Backup mediums are Whatsapp and email. The course consists of reading articles, lectures, and group work via Zoom, panel
discussions in Zoom and writing an essay. The student will read before each
class, she/he will use a set of questions that is delivered before
class, discuss the questions in groups and present the results in a
panel discussion. The student will write an essay 6-8 pages of a
chosen course theme.

Additional information

The course is moving online due to the Corona virus. We well keep
the students informed via email and Itslearning. As this course is
mandatory for the students at
the degree program mediekultur and kulturproducentskap,
these student will be prioritized in case of a great
number of applicants for the course.
