Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student
is expected to be able to:
be equipped with the foundations to participate
in FinTech dialogues in the industry.
This requires the student to understand and be
able to explain:
Concepts: what is FinTech, what is blockchain,
what is cryptocurrency, what is disruption
Evolution: (i) how financial technology has
evolved over time, (ii) the current state of
financial technology
Identify through analysis implications for the
future in terms of:
Opportunities and risks as a professional
Opportunities and risks for the industry e.g.
technology entrepreneurs, banks, corporates,
financial regulators
Derive recommendations and actions for the
industry e.g. technology entrepreneurs, banks,
corporates, financial regulators.

Course contents

(1) The lectures integrate seminar sessions
with guest speakers to get an overview as viewed
from the perspective of the financial industry,
regulators, startups, investors and academia.
Topics:
- Financial technology in the past
- Financial technology in the present
- Financial technology in the future
(2) Case study elaboration and presentation:
in-class and autonomous activities

Prerequisites and co-requisites

A bachelor degree and at least two years work
experience gained after completing the higher
education degree. Deep interest in financial
technology. A technology background is not a
hard prerequisite for this course.
