Competency aims

The aim of the course is to bring together
conceptual and technical skills from previous
courses, and use them to analyse the field of
interactive storytelling, to create a sample work
in this field, and to explore its potential within
broadcast, mobile and online media.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected
to be able to:

a) explain the techniques used in interactive
storytelling;

b) understand the problems and issues inherent in
these techniques;

c) create a storyboard for an interactive story;

d) use their existing skills as a team member in
the production of such a storyboard.

Course contents

Block 1: theoretical lectures; analysis of
existing examples

Block 2: storyboarding techniques; group project
to create a storyboard

Block 3: analysis of technical issues in design
& production;

Block 4: mentored group project to produce an
interactive story app

Assessment requirements

To pass the course the student should pass the
following examinations:

Assignment 1: pitching an idea for an interactive
story

Assignment 2: presentation of finalised storyboard and production schedule

Assignment 3: presentation of first version of
story app

Assignment 4: presentation of completed app

The examinations contribute to the final grade as
follows:

Assignment 1: 20%

Assignment 4: 40%
