Competency aims

The main objective for the student is to get
an insight into how psychological aspects of normal ageing is studied and be able to use this knowledge to promote psychological well-being for the elderly: Applied psychology and Social psychology.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to:
-have an insight into how ageing is studied within the disciplines psychology and social psychology and how you can apply this knowledge in your work within elderly service
- demonstrate an understanding of normal ageing from a psychological point of view

Course contents

-Psychological aspects of age prejudice and discrimination and how to challenge these prejudices
-how ageing is studied from a psychological perspective
- Ageing and specific psychological functions
- Wisdom and creativity trends
- Practical implications of research into mental
functioning
- Personality and adaptation in old age
- Stress, crises - coping and adaptation

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Preferably basic studies in psychology
