Competency aims

The aim of the course is to understand the role of Destination Management Organisations and how they manage with different kind of stakeholders on a destination as e.g. a country, region or a town. The course will also give in-depth knowledge of the functions how to satisfy visitors needs and demands on a sustainable way.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to have a deep knowledge of one chosen destination in Finland or somewhere else. He/she does understand the competitiveness of destinations compared to other destinations. He/she can evaluate management skills displayed in the case of a successful responsible destination. The student will be able to analyze the position of a tourism company from an internal and external points of view.He/she will also consider the impact of future trends .

Course contents

Analysis of different sectors and networks within tourism fields. Analysis of tourism enterprises and entrepreneurship, future development and the effects on people and destination as it is.Responsible issues for destination development. Some destinations will be familiar during the course.

To pass the course the student should pass the following examinations: Minumun 50 points to pass the course, maximun 100 points (examinations include written reports and active discussion) The examinations contribute to the final grade as follows: 50-60=1, 61-70=2, 71-80=3, 81- 90=4,91-100=5
