Competency aims

The aim of the course is knowledge of the historical ideas and roots of natural caring, professional nursing and caring/nursing science; and to reflect on and practice caring ethics in nursing.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to understand the historical trends in caring and nursing and caring science; to report the methods for history of ideas and the critical use of texts in this research approach; to reflect on ethos and caring/nursing ethics and put this into practice.

Course contents

Methods and critical approaches in the history of ideas. The ideological roots and ideas of caring and nursing. Ideas of caring and nursing science theorists. Caring and nursing ethics, the nursing and caring philosophy of the hospital, ethical theories.
