Competency aims

To provide a foundation in those aspects of English usage that can facilitate the conduct of professional duties.

Learning outcomes

This course aims to improve the student's ability to communicate in both vocational and everyday situations, better understand prescribed literature and gain insights into life in English-speaking countries as well to provide a firm foundation for further studies.

Course contents

- review of the language structures important in technical English such as those used to describe processes, cause and effect relationships, trends, dimensions and specifications
- a treatment of themes of general interest with a view to enriching vocabulary and promoting discussion
- an introduction to Business English including the terminology of meetings and conferences, using the telephone, marketing a product.
