Competency aims

The aim of the course is to maintain and extend the development of Arcada's SL island, as a learning platform, and to research strategies for using virtual worlds in business communication and distance learning.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to: 1. understand the applicability of virtual worlds to learning theory: 2. analyse the differences between closed and open worlds, in terms of possible pedagogy; 3. construct simple learning objects in Second Life or RealXtend; 4. create a strategy for testing learning objects; 5. produce the outline of a short learning module using objects that the group has constructed.
