The students master the sound studio and all technical equipment.
Pro Tools editing and mixing.
Analog recording and mixing using Arcadas SSL AWS mixer.
Microphone techniques, mono, stereo and surround.
Dynamicprocessing and equalising.

Learning outcomes

The course teaches the students to work independently in Arcadas sound
studio. We concentrate on recording of acoustic instruments. We go
through all equipment in the studio and a thorough walk through of Pro
Tools.

Course contents

Lectures with practical examples and exercises. We go through the mixing console, look at the signal paths in the studio, how to build foldback/monitoring for the perfomers and musicians we are recording as well as learn different miking techniques for various instruments etc.

During the course we?ll invite artists/bands to come into the studio and record them as a group, we will also finalise a mix on one or several of the recorded tracks. Students will also independently mix one of these tracks, alternatively finalise a mix from another individual project. The own material can preferably music for the movies produced during the course Fictional Storytelling. The individual project can also, if needed, extend over the summer.

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Introduction to media production
(MK-2-113) and sound course 'A' or similar.
