Competency aims

The aim of the course is to provide the student with the
fundamental tools necessary to function within in an academic
environment; this means to be able to construct research
questions and to use these in order to analyze empirical media
material.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will be familiar with some of
the central concepts within the area of cultural studies/media
culture.

Course contents

The course introduces the student to some crucial concepts
within media culture studies:
– power
– presentation and representation
– stereotypes, identity, ethnicity and nationalism
– audience
– media as ritual production and ritual communication
– gender studies
