To give an introduction to the most used network protocols

Learning outcomes

The student will be able to handle network information on different levels of a reference model. Furthermore, the student will have detailed information concerning the most common protocols

Course contents

- control mechanisms in data transmission
- Ethernet and Token Ring
- data link, router and transport protocol
- protocol family TCP/IP
- IPv6, IPX and PPP protocol
- ATM based data communication
- FDDI and ISDN

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Basics in computer networks, C language, UNIX operation system
