Competency aims

The aim of this course is that the students have the basic knowledge and ability needed in caring for the elderly person in institutional setting.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to:
- know how to assess, analyze and support elderly clients' wellbeing and functional capacity.
- assess plan and implement services for chronically disadvantaged elderly people
- know how to develop evidence-based practice while applying client oriented approach.
- be able to set well-defined aims, to prioritize and to staff to achieve the aims.

Course contents

Theoretical base for caring,hygiene,
Basic needs,and interventions to satisfy these needs
Laboratory training and practicing in simulated settings
nursing and care plans

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Fundamentals in gerontology, basic knowledge in geriatrics, geriatric care, nutrition, ethics and medication administration and dosage calculation (geriatric 1)
