Competency aims

The objective of this course is to introduce the students to basic probability, probability distributions and statistical inference with technical applications.

Learning outcomes

Having successfully completed this course the student will be able to:
- understand basic concepts of probability like event, sample space, conditional events and independent events
- understand continuous and discrete probability distributions
- make calculations with the normal, binomial and Poisson distributions
- understand descriptive statistics
- understand statistical inference. Use sample data to make point and interval estimation and hypothesis testing.
