Competency aims

Students develop their clinical expertise in physiotherapy by knowing the illnesses and injuries that require hospitalization. Studentsunderstand their responsibility within the hospital work, has a therapeutic knowledge and are able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
Based on the patient's resources, students respond, facilitate and supervise him / her in daily activities that promote the physical movement and functional ability.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to
- have knowledge about the working tasks of a physiotherapist in the particular hospital

- as an expert in physiotherapy take part in the care of patients with common orthopaedic and traumatologic disorders as well as respiratory and heart diseases

- understand and be able to use documented information about the patients health condition

- assess the need for, plan, implement and evaluate physiotherapy in acute and rehabilitation phases together with the patient, his relatives and other health care professionals.

- be able to choose and adapt methods, models and different forms of movement aiming for health promoting goals for individuals and groups

- have knowledge about the ethical principles in the profession and be able to follow them in practice

- be able to report about the patients movement and functional ability and about the physiotherapy that has been done in words and as written text

- be able to have a dialog with people in different ages and context

- be able to critically evaluate own skills in relation to the practice and what it demands

Course contents

Pre-and postoperative physiotherapy examination, treatment and counseling for patients with orthopedic / internal medical / surgical problems, respiratory and / or circulatory disorders.
