Learning outcomes

Knowledge of - You have the knowledge of principles of 2D Art and Animation from the perspective of pixel art for games which is built on top of a foundation of traditional drawing fundamentals.

- You understand how to see and draw like an artist as well as the fundamental principles of animation.

- You understand the importance of pixel art for games compared to other types of digital art.

- You understand the different types of software and techniques that can be used when creating traditional drawings and pixel art as well as digital animation.

Skills - You develop the skills to be able to do fundamental drawing with pencil and paper as well as pixel art using various digital software?s. You can create unique representations of characters/scenes and then bring them to life.

Attitudes - You realize your capacity to develop your fundamental drawing and animation skills as well as time required to produce quality work.
- You understand how to give and take critical and actionable feedback in a professional manner.​

Learning to ?see? the world through an artist?s
eyes by breaking down drawing into 5 component
skills of: seeing and drawing edges, spaces,
relationships, lights and shadows, and the whole
(gestalt).

Prerequisites and co-requisites

General graphic design knowledge. Understanding how
to use Photoshop / Illustrator and other graphic
design / layout software useful.

Additional information

The communication & absence reporting for the
course happens on Itslearning. The student is
supposed to follow Itslearning and keep up to date
on possible changes.

Note! The situation with Covid-19 might move the
course online. In practice it means that the
lectures are moved from campus to Zoom following
the already existing schedule (bookings on ARBS)
and absence reporting is done normally via
Itslearning. The situation is followed up
continuously and information about possible
changes in the course are sent via e-mail or
Itslearning.
