Competency aims

The aim of the course is to study mechanical characteristics of biocomposites and compare these to traditional composite materials, autocalve lamination is part of the course.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to laminate with vacuum and i autoclave natural fibers and biological resins to a biocomposite material as well as analyze their strength experimentally.

Bio composites

2. Natural fibers and their properties, testing and data analysis. (3h + home work(6h))
3. Lamination of natural fibers with bio epoxy in vacuum and in autoclave. Sisal, hemp and sea grass.(12h + home work(6h))
4. Laminate analysis (Testometric tensile tests) (6h + home work(3h))
5. Study of interface layers in composite material using optical microscope and SEM. (12h + home work(6h))
6. Thermal properties of bio composites (6h + home work(3h))
7. Calculation exercises for strength of materials using bio composites and dimensioning of products to be laminated. Project work, graded 61h
