Competency aims

To give students basic skills to understand, meet and care for the sick child and his/her family.

Learning outcomes

Understands the child as a patient and the role of the family in pediatric nursing. Understands the principles guiding pediatric care and is able to apply them in caring. Understands the impact of disease and hospitalisation on the child and the family. Plans and carries out the basic care of the child. Has basic knowledge about common pediatric diseases and the treatment of them.

Course contents

The child as a patient. Caring patterns in pediatric nursing. The caring process in pediatric nursing. Drug administration in pediatric care.
