Competency aims

The aim is:
- to give the scientific basis for understanding caring science in the context of the humanities. - to get a solid understanding of professional nursing/midwifery care as an integral element in the curriculum.

You understand the basics of the patient safety work in Finland and you are able to give examples of the most common safety- and risktheories.

Learning outcomes

You are able to understand caring science literature and use scientific knowledge when writing an essay on one of the central elements of caring science.
You understand the theoretical core of caring science and reflect on its meaning in nursing and caring practice

You are able to describe the normal theories within safety science.
You understand how risks are avoided and managed.
You are able to give examples of how human factors influence all your work and understand how teamwork may make your work safer.

Course contents

Caring science and academic nursing practice. The basic knowledge concerning caring as a science and the idea of the human being, health, suffering, environment/the world of the patient, and caring. Sub-divisions of caring science.
