Competency aims

The aim of the course is to introduce students to database-driven content management systems, and to enable them to utilise such systems in their own work.

Learning outcomes

1. Understanding the function and structure of database-driven content management systems.
2. Understanding how to manage information
3. Understanding how to manage a cms-based site
4. Understanding how to generate meta data
5. Understanding a range of techniques to make information public (e.g. xhtml, css and xml).

Course contents

The base knowledge consists of Xhtml and css. Then the studies continue with XML. Students will plan the structure of a dynamic web site, using a content management system. Students will create the site, understanding the way in which content and layout are split, and able to manage each effectively.
Students will evolve techniques for linking their site to the social web.
