Competency aims

The aim of the course is to give students the
knowledge and practical skills in order to produce
mould plates for injection moulding using Mastercam software and a CNC machine.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is
expected to be able to:

-Be able to to simulate the machining of a
mould plate using Mastercam 2019 software.
-To determine the machine time, feed rate and
tools for required machining operations.
-Be able to write G-Code for the machining of
parts on a CNC lathe.
-To machine a mould plate in groups on the HAAS
cnc machine in the Arcada workshop.
-To produce engineering reports and to follow "Good Scientific Practice in Studies".

Course contents

Introduction to Mastercam
Basic 2D Milling and Dynamic Milling
Basic 3D Milling
Mastercam Lathe
Fanuc10T and G-Code
Project - Prototyping of mould plate for
tensile test piece

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Laboratory Safety for Engineers.

Students are required to have taken Solid
Modelling and Manufacturing Processes also. This is thus a second year subject and not recommended for first year students or open university students.

Due to the limit of Mastercam software licenses
at Arcada, the course is offered only to the
recommended year of students inside Arcada or
to students who have not passed the course
previously. Other students may choose to
download the software for home use or complete
the work individually.
