Competency aims

The general aim of the course is to provide the
student with support and tools to purposefully and
successfully study at Arcada.

Part 2 (3 ECTS) ICT Driving License
The aim of this course section is to guarantee
each new student the opportunity to aquire the
necessary ICT (Information and Communication
Technology) skills for their studies.

Learning outcomes

Part 1 (2 ECTS) University studies of today

At the end of the course students are expected to:
- know how to use the Arcada information channels
- be acquainted to his/hers studying plan,
profession and reflect over what the goals of the
studies are
- know different tools, methods and studying forms
that support outcome oriented learning
- understand what autonomous learning means for
the individual learning process and for the
studying results
- be acquainted with the ethical principles
- identify his/hers qualifications in languages
- be aware of the opportunities to develop
language competence

Part 2 (3 ECTS) ICT Driving License

The learning outcomes are the same as for the ICT
Driving License at The University of Helsinki,
i.e. after having completed the course you have
the ICT knowledge and skills necessary for
successful studies and for developing your

Part 1 (2 ECTS)University studies of today

Part 2 (3 ECTS) ICT Driving License

The ICT leveling test is recommended to be made in
good time. The leveling test serves as a
prognostic test and support for the ICT Driving
License.

The content of the course applies the
corresponding content at The University of
Helsinki:
1 Introduction to the use of computers
2 The computer environment at Arcada
3 Modifying and presenting data
4 Information retrieval
5 Information security and privacy protection

Prerequisites and co-requisites

None.

Additional information

Participating in a preparation seminar prior to
the examination seminar is mandatory.
Both course parts - University studies of today
and ICT Driving License - must be passed during
the academic year. The course parts are registered
in one single grade.

Part 2: The ICT Driving License starts with
compulsory level tests during week 35. The level
tests serve as prognostic test and support for the
ICT Driving License. After the tests you will
follow an individual study plan depending on the
test results.

Assessment requirements

Part 1 (2 ECTS)University studies of today
Active participation in lessons and tutorials, the
participation is shown in a learning diary.

Part 2 (3 ECTS) ICT Driving License
The computer based examination is marked "passed"
when you have minimum 70% correct answers.
To qualify for the examination you first have to
pass the level tests in each of the five modules
with minimum 70% correct answers.
