To give an introduction to the most used network protocols

Learning outcomes

The student will be able to handle network information on different levels of a reference model. Furthermore, the student will have detailed information concerning the most common protocols

Course contents

  • control mechanisms in data transmission
  • Ethernet and Token Ring
  • data link, router and transport protocol
  • protocol family TCP/IP
  • IPv6, IPX and PPP protocol
  • ATM based data communication
  • FDDI and ISDN

Prerequisites and co-requisites

Basics in computer networks, C language, UNIX operation system
