Competency aims

The aim of the course is to provide the students with basic knowledge and skills in discrete mathematics needed in the IT field.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to:
- know elementary set theory
- know recurrence relations
- know relations and functions
- know the definition and properties of (binary) trees and understand how trees can be used in a sorting algorithm
- understand induction och recursion
- be able to build and solve problems with a truth table
- be able to use the laws of logic
- be able to use the Euclidean algorithm
- be able to solve simple problems with graph theory
- be able to find the shortest path, minimal spanning tree and maximize the flow in a graph
