Having successfully completed this course the student will be able to:
1.Understand quality management principles (traditional and TQM)
2.Understand and describe the Quality Concept and the development of Quality Philosophy
3.Understand the Hierarchy of Needs and the Kano-model of Customer Needs
4.Define parameters of quality in goods and services
5.Perform a Concept Selection Process
6.Be aware of types of variations and the causes behind them
7.Perform SPC (Statistical Process Control) by using Variable Charts
8.Perform process capability studies
9.Improve the performance of processes by the use of the 7 QC-tools (Quality Control Tools)
10.Develop quality procedures
11.Understand the structure and philosophy of ISO 9000:2000

Course contents

Definition of quality. TQM vs. traditional quality management.

Quality parameters and dimensions. Quality and product development. Quality and profitability. Quality and productivity. Costs of lack of quality.

History of the development of quality thinking. The most important influential persons Deming and Juran.

Customer oriented product development. Quality methods in product development.

Product quality. Graphical methods in process improvement. The 7 QC-tools.

Statistical Process Control. Variable charts. Process capability.

Quality Managemnet Systems. ISO 9000:2000. Quality awards.
