Competency aims

The student should be able to structure
problems and implement these as software code
solutions. The student should also understand
and
be able to apply different data structures for
structuring large amounts of data. This course
also provides basic skills in object oriented
programming in Java as well usage of Swing.

  • inheritance, abstract classes, interface
  • Swing

Algorithms

  • the algorithm concept
  • structuring (sub-algorithms, recursion)
  • modularity
  • complexity
  • examples of algorithms (including linear data
    structures, search, sort)

Data structures

  • dynamic data structures
  • linear data structures (stack and queue)
  • linked data structures (lists, trees and
    graphs)
  • file structures

The data type concept

  • elementary types
  • enumerated types
