With it’s 16 000m2, three bright squares and innovative learning environments the house has been designed to create inspiring and efficient working environments for both staff and students. The Arcada campus is located only 15 minutes from the centre of Helsinki near good traffic connections. The building is owned by Fastighets Ab Arcada Nova, which also owns the Prakticum building next to Arcada, the studenthousing and the Cor-house . During 2019 a sports hall is expected to be finished in addition to Arcadas campus.

As a student at Arcada, you will be assigned your own electronic key that you are personally responsible for. During weekends, you can enter and exit the Arcada main building with your electronic key only through the door on the right side of the two main entrances.

Green Office - Since 2011

With Arcada's growing campus it has become more important to think sustainability on a long term basis. This is something which Arcada has actively been working for, and as a part of our work for sustainability we were granted the Green Office certification from WWF of Finland on June 1st 2011. The Green Office is a concrete environment program which aims to decrease carbondixoide emissions and also to decrease companies' ecological footprint through ecological effectivity. Green Office also means that organisations with the GO-certification voluntarily are working to improve the environment by doing their best of decreasing their ecological footprint and thus working for sustainable development.

Arcada's environment program

In accordance to our approved certification we agreed to a 5 year plan with a yearly check-up, to actively work on achieving specific goals regarding ecological effectivity. We are continuously striving to decrease our electricity-, heat- and paper consumption. We are also striving to remain on the current level of water consumption.

Focus for 2019

We organized a pop-up event at Arcada to promote the Earth Hour event (30th March 2019). We wanted to encourage both students and personnel to switch off lights during one hour as a part of the global movement and to take a concrete climate action.

In March both employees and students (new for this year) answered WWF’s Green Office consumer habit questionnaire. This way we engaged our employees and students to think about decreasing our ecological footprint and promote a sustainable consumer behavior. The result will come in June.

The solar panels are in full use during the snow free period of the year. This way Arcada produce climate friendly energy. A meter on our screen will soon show how much electricity we produce.

In April we visited Nihtisilta, one of Finland’s biggest Resuse Centre. Here we had an opportunity to see how much and in what way you can reuse different products.

We have encouraged our employees and our students to use the citybikes and we will take part in the KM competition 1.5-22.9.2019. Arcada will have a team that compete.

In the autumn 2019 we will get new waste bins and will have the possibility to sort plastic.

During the year we promoted different events and campaigns, for example, take the stairs-campaign, food waste, World Water Day, sustainable consumption and sorting waste.
