Competency aims
The aim of the course is to present and discuss
different types of
qualitative methods, their background, aim and
use.
The aim of the second part of the course is to
present and
discuss different types of quantitative methods,
their
background, aim and use.
And, in the end the student should feel
confident
to use the methods taught in the own bachelor
thesis research, i.e. the student can do BA
level
thesis research and can do small scale business
reporting with the help of research.
Learning outcomes
The student will learn to identify a research
problem, define an
objective and choose a suitable qualitative
research method to
present and analyse empirical material.
The student will learn how to define a research
problem, how to
create a measurement instrument based on prior
knowledge,
how to sample respondents, and finally, how to
code and analyze
collected data.
Course contents
The research process and qualitative methods
such
as
brainstorming, focus group-, interviewing,
observation-, case
studies and action research.
The research process and quantitative methods
such as: chi square, correlation-, regression-,
factor-, cluster-,
mds-, conjoint and similar methods.

Assessment requirements
To pass the course the student should pass the
following examinations on time (deadlines):
Exercises in class and online
(examinations include written examination tests,
demonstrations and presentations, reports and
productions, essays, and also presence at
specified occasions)
The examinations contribute to the final grade
as
follows: Quantitative part's examination 50% and
qualitative part's examination 50%. Max 100
points can be obtained and min 50 points is a
grade 1, 90-100 points grade 5. 25 points from
each part a the minmum requirement.
